Madakaripura Waterfall, Know the History, Location, Route and Entrance Fees

Madakaripura Waterfall is one of the waterfalls that is close to the tourist attraction of Mount Bromo via Probolinggo route (Bromo entrance from Cemara Lawang village). Madakaripura is the highest waterfall on the island of Java and the second highest in Indonesia with a height of about 200 meters.

The name Madakaripura is taken from the word “Mada” which refers to the name Gajah Mada (Patih of the Majapahit Kingdom). And for “Kari” means a relic, while “Pura” means a place to pray or meditate. So when combined, it means that the waterfall is believed to be the hermitage of the Patih of the Majapahit Kingdom.

The story is supported by the Gajah Mada statue at the entrance gate area of ​​this tourist spot. The statue is the starting location for the journey on foot to the location of the waterfall.

The path to Madakaripura Waterfall

To enjoy the beauty of Madakaripura Waterfall, tourists can use a vehicle to the parking area then take a taxibike to the waterfall gate. Arriving at the gate there is a statue of “Gajah Mada” then walk through the forest area and river flow. The time it takes is about 30 minutes – 1 hour through the trail and following the river flow along the trekking path.

Along the way, tourists can simultaneously enjoy the view of the green cliffs on either side of the river. During the rainy season, several small waterfalls appear and seem to flow on the sidelines of the cliffs. It is recommended to wear non-slip sandals because the road is quite slippery and bring an umbrella so that the whole body is not wet by the splash of the small waterfall that flows from the cliff.

Approaching the point of the waterfall, the river valley narrows like a canyon. Even though the weather is sunny, around the waterfall feels as if it is raining because the water does not only flow from the main waterfall, but also from the narrow cliff edge.

Route to Madakaripura Waterfall

This waterfall is located on the slopes of Mount Bromo at an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level. The cool air combined with the green natural atmosphere. The panorama of the water falling past the vertical cliffs covered in green plants is so enchanting.

Madakaripura Waterfall is located on the border between Probolinggo Regency and Pasuruan Regency. Tourists usually prefer to go through the Probolinggo route because the terrain is easier to pass.

The distance from Probolinggo to Madakaripura waterfall is also closer, about 1 hour drive. Meanwhile, if you choose from Pasuruan, it can take more than 2 hours.

This waterfall tour is located near the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park area. Precisely in the village of Sapih, Branggah, Lumbang, Probolinggo, East Java. To get to this place is quite easy, just follow the path to Mount Bromo from Probolinggo which is about 37 kilometers.
